A heads up about a movie airing on HBO tomorrow Feb 21st at 8 pm est. Movie is Taking Chance and has had a lot of USMC input and support. It is based on the true story of a Marine LTC escorting the remains of Chance back to his home and burial in Wyoming. I think I have that all right.

Might want to watch it alone. Word in the gov circles is it is a real eye waterer.

Since I am too stupid to know how to cut and paste here, there is a website gfor trailers for this movie. I think it is just the HBO site. I promise you will need Kleenex just to watch the trailer.
This story need to be told. Kevin Bacon does an unreal job.

I'm going to have my kleenex box ready. I can't watch Band of Brothers without choking up, and I've seen it dozens of times.

Dubois is just over the Togwotee Pass from here (Jackson Hole), so the release of the film is getting lots of attention here.

Yep, KB made some honorable comments when interviewed about the movie. Better than a lot of the other hollywierd aholes out their in fantasy land.

We only will deal with this for a few hours during the movie and will remember it off and on from now on, LTC Strobel and even more so the Phelp's family will deal with this the rest of their lives.

Worst duty in the military is Casualty Assistance Officer. Second worst duty is Next of Kin Notification Officer. Some say it's the other way around but when I use to pull it, I always thought it was mentally easier to be in and out in 1-2 hours to inform the family than to be with a family for 2-4 weeks and the full transition of the greiving process. Both made me go home and hug the wife and kids more than usual.

Leads to the understanding that our expectations are a direct result of the standards of our peer group.

After watching the trailer and reading the story.... I will watch this movie alone.

:twisted:I think the best thing to come out of hollywood, on a regular basis, was the Girls Gone Wild Spring Break Editions! Now with that said I will watch this movie tonight.

Folks were like that in PA and WV. Can't say we always got the same treatment in NYC. Police and Fire were always good. Most of the others could care less and were more concerned about how to get through the funeral procession and how we interrupted their day. If they spoke English I would have given them an earfull.

Going to watch it at 9pm (Mountain). I know the hardest things I've ever done in law enforcement are death notifications. Especially telling parents a child has been killed. It is emotionally draining. I can't imagine how difficult a duty it would be to assist the family throughout the entire process.

God bless and keep all our vets.

Very touching indeed. It brought back some very sad memories for me. Our soldiers deserve the highest honor and respect we can give.
