MX-6707 antenna question

There is no bracket that fits on the underside of the fender antenna mount. This bracket was designed for the M939 series 5 tons (not sure about the 809's specifically). The bow portion of the mount goes through a few layers of sheet metal that add to the integrity of the mount. The stern angled piece only go through one layer of sheet metal. Hope this helps.

Hi depdog, The antenna brackets used on the rear fender of the HMMWV and the 800/900 series 5 tons are totally different. The light duty bracket for the HMMWV that is mounted on the rear fender above the taillight is used with both the VRC46 family radios(MX6707 TUNER) as well as the newer SINCGARS. The fender does flex a lot and can fatigue the aluminum when running with the large colinear 2 piece antennas in the up position.
YES there is a reinforcing plate that goes with the mount kit that goes inside the fender to help stop the flexing. It is sort of a trianglular aluminum plate with one large hole in the center and three small holes 2 up top and one at the bottom. Most people just throw them away and dont install them but they are in the TM and I am looking at 2 of them right now sitting on the tool box.
It is rec that you run with the large antennas tied down when moving and raise them when stopped unless the reinforcing plates are in there when using the light duty mounting bracket. Or you can use the stainless steel High-Survivability Antenna AS3916/VRC antenna which can run up all the time without flexing the rear fender panel. Lastly you can go to the newer ruggedized rear fender corner mount that has the external flat plate which bolts to the side of the HMMWV at the same time bolting to the rear. These are very rugged and are able to withstand the use of the offset extensions that allow the antenna to be tied down without rubbing on the vinyl top and wearing a hole through.
