Father-in-law and I made a hitch today for Big Ugly. He scored a random 2" hitch from his brother and then we cut it up and fabbed mounts for it that don't interfere with the D-ring or pintle brackets. Even triangulated some mounts from the center rear of the hitch back to the two holes near the shackle hangers. 8)

I'll get pics soon but forgot the camera. :?

Cool. I look forward to the pics. This should be a handy post for reference since this topic has come up several times before.

It's definately not for the non-welding. I'd imagine you could pay to have it done but I wouldn't want to.

My father in law's an expert welder and used to do it for a living so this was no problem for him. He's also got a large stockpile of scrap steel too.

Me, I can burn holes in metal and stick the electrode to the metal real good...so I called and asked for help.

We tied it into the two bolts that hold the bumper and the D-ring shackle mount to the frame on each side. Then we extended two pieces of angle out from the center to the hole near the rear shackles. We also tied the hitch into the bumper to keep up and down deflection to a minimum.
It's not exactly high clearance but I don't wheel it hard and if I'm dragging it I'm dragging something else. It's plenty sturdy, and I figure it is at the very least a Class III...more than likely more.

Now to take it off, clean it up, and paint it.
