I am so excited that I finally acquired a deuce. It’s a 1958 M35a2 wo/w. We recovered it today and brought it to @whitgreen77 place for short term storage.

This may be a little long but I’d like to share how I came to own this. Two weeks ago I was supposed to bring my M37 to the the Regional Military Museum in Houma, LA for their annual Vietnam Veterans event. The museum is about 1.5 hours from the house and I had to be back to LSU in Baton Rouge for an event for my daughter at 5:30. Time was going to be tight. A friend of mine who is a veteran with a hmmwv told me about a car show that was about 30 mins from the house and benefits the town Veterans park, so that was a much better option for my time constraints. We met up with two other friends with a 1942 MB and a 1949 M38 and displayed our vehicles. My buddy (Russell with the hmmwv) was talking to another veteran about our trucks and said “hey Mike, you need to come talk to this guy “. I went over and introduced myself. The man (Bob) is a retired Air Force crew chief and begins to ask questions about how I restored my M37. He said that I was just the guy he was looking for. He stated that he has an M35a2 and that he wanted to find someone who would give it the attention it deserves and wants to “give away”. I said call me intrigued and what is your give it away price? He said that it is exactly what he said, to be given away. I was blown away. The truck has become too much of a burden for him due to medical conditions and he has been very fortunate so he just wants someone to appreciate and restore it. So after 2 weeks of trying to get our schedules to align, I was able to get it recovered today. It is very good condition for having been neglected for the past 3 years. It was driven to where it was parked so with fresh batteries and some fresh diesel, I was able to get it started and out of the woods. So for being at a car show that I wasn’t supposed to be at, it turned out to be a very fortunate event for me.

Sheet metal looks solid, including cab corners. Pressure-washed, the truck likely comes right around to an acceptable level of prettyness!
Let us know what you find and what it needs! Also, fiberglass troop seats that do not rot away!

Thanks. It does have some rot on the floors and below the lower hinges on both sides. I am trying to find out which Turbo is installed in it. This is what the engine tag says:

I plan on turning the truck into a "gun truck" or get really ambitious and fab up a Quad .50 mount for it like the "Nancy" truck.
Things I know I will need as I haven't had a lot of time to look it over:
New top
Spare tire
Pioneer tool handles as they are rotten

I am sure there will be other items but it looks very complete.

Hinged mud flaps. Probably an M35A1 that was updated to A2 engine. Cool! Seems like maybe we had a thread once about the A1 stuff. Hole in the floorboard for stomp starter (mine still has the stomp). Tach below rest of gauge panel. Wiper knob different. Bed mounting....

Looks like a whistler or C turbo which you probably know if you had it running.

I was wondering if I had an A1 just because of the year. The engine definitely looks much newer than 1958 and the dash looks more modern.
