Mystery Winch Part

I began the overhaul of my 10K winch today and came across a part I cannot identify. The TM shows it in the illustration but it is not referenced. I is a hinge of some type and mine is somewhat bend with a small hole in the hinge plate. It may be broken off but I am not sure. What is it and is it critical to the operation of my winch?

It is the lock so the lever cant be accidentally moved.

That is just a lock to keep the handle from being accidently engaged.

Great. Do you just flip it up to go against the lever or how does it work. Can you tell from my photo if mine appears to be complete and what is the hole for?

Yours looks right. I think they are unit applied.

All deuce winches came with it. Just flip it up and it blocks the shifter from moving. Might need to juice it up to get it working smoothly.

And if its stuck back over too far, and bent just right, its just perfect for nicking a nice little hole in the radiator you're removing / installing (right through the cardboard you thought would protect the radiator...)

Similar lesson learned! Use masonite to protect radiator.

2nd time I used a lid from a big rubbermaid tote, just about the right size.

Tinwoodsman, my winch did not come equipped with this piece. I intend to make one, it's not that complicated, but I wonder if i could trouble you for another picture with the latch flipped up, that would show how it's properly mounted, and how it sits against the lever when it's in use.
