New 6.5l turbo rebuild, how do I tell if IP has already been turned up?

Hello all, as the title says, I am starting to finish up my 6.5l turbo build. The truck had a 6.5l repower when I bought it. I am wondering if there is a way to tell if the IP has been turned up, should I leave as is and see how it runs, or turn it up and watch EGTs? Not sure which is the best way to go.

Thanks much,
Greg

You would have to pull the pump apart and measure the roller to roller dimension on the rotor. It isn't that hard to do, but it does require having a few special tools. One is a Kent Moore J-29601, also a 1-2" mircometer and a plate to bolt the pump to. The other issue is that Stanadyne is double top secret about their pump specs. Trying to find roller to roller dimensions online is pretty much impossible. On the NA 6.2 pumps I've messed with they seem to be around 1.978", I've heard that NA 6.2's have specs for up to 1.981". I pulled apart a HMMWV 6.2 turbo pump and it was at 1.985". All that being said your 6.5 pump will have larger pistons and because of that I'd assume that the roller to roller dimension would be less than the 6.2's. 6.2 pumps have pistons .290" diameter, 6.5 pumps are .310"... I think.

All that rambling aside you could make up a vice plate and buy the Kent Moore tool and do it yourself with a 1-2" micrometer... But the catch is you have to know the desired roller to roller dimension. That info you would have to coax out of an injection shop.

If the pump is leaky or suspect you should pull it and do it yourself or have an injection shop do it.

If the pump isn't leaky I'd leave it alone and "tune" it on the truck by watching your EGT...
