Im new to all of this I own severel new vehicles. I recently purchased a 86 M1009 and my transmission just went out. Im stationed in Bethel Ak and though im a mechanic I am not a vehicle mechanic. I have not been able to locate the data plate or stamp to find out what kind of transmission I have. Also does any one know if these things are custom or silverado?

All spelled out in the CUCV FAQ in the Stickies section. There is even a VIN decoder chart.

As originally equipped, it should have a TH400 trans. The style for the body is 'custom' and, for 99.9% of the truck, are built using the '84 parts list. So even though yours was built in '86, it pretty much uses '84 parts.

You need to post a new thread rather than dragging up an old one, especially one that's completely unrelated to your question.

The TMs (technical manuals) will answer just about any question you might have, and are FREE for downloading here. Also, read the stickies and the Wiki. You'll learn a ton in a short space of time.

I see lots of questions here that can and need to be answered out of the TM's , all the books can be had on PDF , print the book , read the book, and keep your truck stock then the book still means something, makes life much easier,
