I've been drooling over 5-tons and wanted to know from some local people what hoops they had to jump through to license and insure their 5-tons (i.e. CDL, registration, insurance)?

oh one other question what's with the GL site saying there is a 1000000% buyers premium?

Welcome aboard from Grays Harbor County! I've got two 5 tons. License is easy. Got mine licensed as "Collector Vehicles" w/State Farm Classical Car insurance ($22.60 every 6 months) each;-) Buyer's Premium is 10% plus you'll need to pay the local sales tax on top of that.

So did going the collector vehicle route bypass the CDL? or is it not required for a private vehicle? Did you happen to look into licensing it regularly?

If im not mistaken, the way you insure the truck and the drivers license thats required to drive the truck are not related.

That's true Ray but in Washington we have "collector's Plates" and I was trying to ascertain whether or not that bypasses the CDL requirement for a 26k+ w/ air, kind of like with RV's
