OK, FINALY got my MEP-005A from Barstow (almost 2 weeks).

There are a few parts missing.

One, There is a large round jack on the box behind the control panel, on the shelf.

This plug, seems to supply the control system with 24 volts, as NOTHING is working with the batteries installed, and the 7.5 amp DC breaker has no wires connected to it.

Shorting the solenoid to battery will crank the engine :)D not seized!)

What is this box (with several round Cannon style plugs on it) called?

Two, The speed switch appears to be missing.

Can the set be run without it?

I have the TM's, but the fundamental terminology is eluding me.

Thanks!

You really need that switch. It has contacts to prevent over-speed, and as well it also controls the flashing of the generator as the engine gets up to speed. Without it there will be no flash, and no safety shutoff should the system malfunction. (as well, there are contacts that would prevent the system from starting in that switch too.)

I'd suggest finding a replacement switch.

Figured out what box it is, the special relay box.

Can any one tell me if both j2 and j5 are utilized on the -005A (utility class) sets?

My TM is fuzzy on the page with wire sources and destinations for the special relay box, TM x-34 pg 5-28.2, change 9.

Thanks

An MEP-004 is almost exactly the same, so if they are not using the two jacks, you'd be OK. (I don't think they are used, I know there are open connectors, used for the precise model, but I don't know off the top of my head which ones.

If necessary I could check mine, but it's covered right now so it will take a bit of work to get in there.

Nah, it is J5 (too much dust on the box).

I now have been able to determine that J5 is the connector that connects to the rest of the set (engine sensors, 24 VDC, fuel level, starter, etc.).

So now it is time to print some TM pages, and set to building a harness....
