I have this in the new member section to. thanks for the help

I have a question that I hope to be answered. The right rear-rear axle shaft was leaking at the flange and after pulling the shaft the outer bearing has no grease on it but differential oil covering it. Is this correct since this has the central air system with air seals in hub separating the inner and outer bearing. The inner bearing should have grease in it.

I can not get the hub to come off after looking thru the TMs for anything I missed besides removing the nuts. The reason this bugs me is I read a trip posting about a truck having its wheel bearings fail with something about these bearings not being packed with grease during overhaul of the truck. The hubs have not heated up during my drives and no noise while giving the wheel a spin rolls smooth.

I have not done mine yet to advise you properly but I might
look real hard at the TM's and look at the parts exploded view
and make sure you have ALL the right stuff removed so the hub
"SHOULD" come off then support it and go to the backside
WITH THE TIRE ON and kick it and I bet ya it comes off.

I do believe a trick in doing that job is to indeed leave the
wheel attached and use a dolly and pull the wheel and
hub all at the same time...

Thanks for response. I have FIELD MAINTENANCEREAR HUBS REPLACEMENT (M939A2) TM 9-2320-272-23-3 work package page 0482 I think its just the air seals holding but not sure.

Hi Artisan,

The brake for the wheel is caged. The drum is off.
Equipment ConditionFront wheels chocked. (TM 9-2320-272-10)
Spring brake caged. (TM 9-2320-272-10)
Rear wheel(s) removed. (TM 9-2320-272-10)

I figured out my problem with trying to remove hub from spindle, I had to overcome the air and oil seals in the hub came off. Now I need to check the rest.
