Well after solving the starting problem,I started to solve the steering issue. After installing the new engine ,I had no powersteering. So I replaced the powersteering pump today.Still nothing.Could it have air in the system,Or could it be the hydrobooster ? I have been trying to solve this mystery for 2 days. There are some air bubbles in the pump after I shut it off.Any help would be grateful.

bleeding power steering

I was curious about the bleed process and did a 'you tube' / TM search on 'CUCV bleeding power steering' and found a cool TM site I hadn't found before, thanks to your steering issue.
http://trucks125ton.tpub.com/TM-9-2320-289-20/

It's got a list of the TM items and a link to the two pages for 'bleeding power steering'. ....which won't help you but should help someone else.

The you tube link shows a vacuum plug inserted into the top of the reservoir and using a vacuum line off the truck, sucking the air out.

Hope this goes away cheap just by following steps 2 and 4 then calling your supervisor!

Good Luck

Where did you get your power steering pump? I had a hose fail and lost fluid while out driving Friday. Now the pump is making some nasty noise. I see that Kascar has them, just curious if there are any available locally.

I just had some power steering issues on two hmmwv's on a tv show set. The oil cooler lines came off on both of them. They were a real pain to bleed out. After filling the pump and running them for a short time, when they were shut off they would spray fluid out of the reservoir cap. Starting them up and giving the wheel a quick turn and then shutting them off to sit for a while seemed to work. One had a very bad pump nose for a while but eventually went away. Although I don't know how to help,my guess would be a serious air lock.

If you didn't bleed the ps its going to piss and moan....it's simple but can take time, its in the TM, I personally will fill, start, monitor level...turn steering wheel all the way hard left, hold and back the other way full right and hold....do this about 20 times. I have then just let the truck sit over night and do it again...then sit over night. You know when your getting close because the foaming goes away.....if you have foam....you have air.
That's another reason alot of folks go with power steering fluid instead of ATF. If its a fresh build, meaning new pump, lines and cooler you can just use ps fluid.....or,you can flush out the ATF.
