ok i need help pleese... pissing me off!

alright well i went through starters like skittles a month ago and then i adjusted the valve timing, and i was finally feeling good about it starting everytime, then a week ago it starts acting up again, and so i have to keep turning it over by hand a lil because it sounds like it is wining, then i try and start it this morning and it sounded like it wasent even hitting the flexplate, after 10 min of turning it a lil each time by hand somehow i got it started and same on the way home from work, so i get home and i look at the starter it is cracked again...... what do i have to do to fix this!!!!!! gear reduction, flex plate, timing??? what

Either you are getting a lot of bad starters- what kind by the way, you are not mounting it right, or the flexplate/ring gear have problem. I think you need some there who can take a look at it first hand to give you an opinion. How did you adjust the valve timing? Do you mean injector timing?

lol yea i ment injector timing, i advanced it a tiny bit that is what a guy told me to do. mounting is all correct. idk maby some how i am shimming it wrong but i dont think so i use a pater clip to check it and everything. flexplate/ring gear what where is that and how do i check and fix.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that your flexplate/ring gear is FUBAR. If there are some chipped teeth or missing teeth, the force of the starter jumping the teeth can bust the starter for sure. I'd pull the bottom cover and inspect the condition of the teeth.

I'll second the notion that if your flexplate starter ring has broken or missing teeth, the force of the starter jumping can crack the nose of the thing. It'll keep doing that untill you replace the flexplate. Weren't you going to do that anyway??? It's overdue now. I have one you can get for cheap if you're interested... teeth look good.

The other thing that can crack the nose of a starter is if it needs shims, and you don't put any in... I have no idea how to tell if they need shims or not... I just know that if you should have them and don't, it cracks the nose becuase it's trying to engage too deep in the ring gear teeth, and can't... Do the starters that come out look like that is the case??

Is the rear bracket there it bolts to the block and the back of the starter. The weight of those starters needs that bracket. I have seen alot of cracked nose cones and that seams to be the problem. Like said above pull the cover off and look at the whole gear,you can spin it with a large screwdriver.

when i first installed the starter it sounded normal and i shimmed just the passenger side. and then about 2 to 3 weeks it started gettting a lil louder and then it started to wine, and now it just makes a noise like a ele. motor.

Take the starter out and look at the flexplate to see if it is chewed up. If it is messed up bad enough to not start it should be obvious when looking at it.

I'm not sure what you meant by shimming the passenger side? Does that mean you only shimmed 1 of the bolts? Starter shims go between the starter and engine across both bolts. Are you using actual starter shims or just putting washers or something inbetween the starter and engine?

and there is like 4-5 teeth that have like a 1/8 grinded off of the teeth should it still be good?

I think that you need to replace it at this point. You should be following the procedure for replacing the starter in the TM, it tells how to properly shim the starter. Look at 9-2320-289-20, section 4-5.
