Well today was the last day of the after school program for my oldest son. I haven't driven the deuce in some time so I though I'd surprise my oldest by picking him up today. Well I got right into town and noticed the temp was at 230F. I pulled over at my church parking lot and radioed back to bravo team to recover the package. (Bravo team being my wife and youngest son )
Anyhow, since I was in the middle of town I needed to figure out why the temp was so high. Luckily I had a set of welding gloves in the cab so I popped the cap slowly to let pressure off the system. I pulled the t-stat out, I noticed some gunk around it. It also was cocked sideways slightly. I reassembled the neck on the engine again without the t-stat. Luckily I keep a tube of silicone in the deuce as the gasket wasn't reuseable. I had cleaned the surfaces off with some sandpaper as well. Then I topped it back off with water. It puked a little water out as Bravo team informed me on the way back home. But it only got up to 160F on the way back home.
The moral of the story is, always carry tools, silicone, gloves, and a gallon container. You never know when you might need them.
I'll be flushing the cooling system next and reinstalling the t-stat after everything is cleaned out.
Sorry didn't have any pics since I was more concerned about getting back on the road promptly.
