OT90/BMP oil pump not running - help

You will need to drain the oil tank before you work on the pump or you'll have a big mess. If I recall its only 11 or 12 gallons of oil in the tank. It is very possible that something has been wedged in the pump locking it up so don't give up yet. The filters in a lot of these eastern vehicles aren't very impressive so you could possibly get chunks by the screen and into the pump. . . in fact it could have sucked the screen into the pump. Clearance between the rotors is very small and it doesn't take a lot to lock them up. In any event don't start the engine without pre-oiling. You may have to get the motor rewound or the pump rebuilt but its worth doing it and saving the engine. Parts for these little jewels are not easy to find and the engines are really tough. Clearance in the bearings is fairly huge compared to Western engines and for that reason you need lots of oil in them before starting. Pressure on the crank with these huge diesels is pretty high. The BMP does use roller bearings as opposed to slipper types so that is a plus but they still need lots of oil.
