Greetings. We just purchased an MTVR from GP. The vehicle is a 2007, indicating 3,443 miles and 216 hours. I spent hours scouring the Inspection Reports and photos, and tried to pick the nicest one. The only material defect listed in the inspection report, is that the CTIS is flashing. I have an extensive background in motorsports and vehicle repair- I'm hoping I'll be able to get that sorted out.

I recently retired, and my wife and I intend to convert it into an overland expedition type vehicle and register it as a motorhome (motorhomes over 26,000 pounds GVWR do not require a CDL to operate on public roads in most states).

I see that hundreds of these things have been sold, but I'm not seeing a lot of information out there.

I gotta head to the bank to wire the funds over. I've asked for an SF97, to facilitate titling it in my state. I'll need to complete and submit my EUC. I've requested shipping bids from GP. And I'm gonna have to submit a bill of lading to get refunded on the California state sales tax. Anything else I'm forgetting?

Are there shipping options apart from whatever GP is going to offer me, that I should be considering?Our new home.jpgOur new home 2.jpg

Congrats- you beat me in that auction... I am doing the same thing regarding expedition vehicles. I find the veri-tread shipping options from gov planet to be a little pricey. I went to yermo and picked up the truck my self and drove it back to Colorado. This ended up being a pretty simple operation. the ctis flashing can be something as simple as a hose leak and the pressure level not satisfying in the compressor tank. or a valve being open. This was the case when I picked up my truck

I paid for the truck this morning via wire transfer, including the $50 for the SF97.

I got my EUC completed and printed off, as well as a legible photocopy of my driver's license- I'll be mailing those off to GP tomorrow.

I'd like to start forming a plan for getting it trucked home- I need to submit a bill of lading to GP by April 1st to get them to refund me the California sales tax.

What else do I need to do?

ANYTHING you send them surface mail-make sure it is sent registered or other proof of delivery method (I.e. FedEx etc) and follow up to customer service with an email and tracking info.

Congratulations. That is a good looking truck. I'm guessing you wont have any issues going over the payload rating on your build. You could build the walls out of bricks, have granite flooring and counters and still be way under :D

Thanks. Given your input, I scanned my EUC documents and e-mailed them to GovPlanet's EUC Processing Department. I immediately received an automated confirmation response e-mail.

Looks excellent! I was thinking the same thing about an overland camper. I thought I might be able to have a wood chipper box fabricated so that it bolts on the flatbed without modifying the truck. I suppose the flatbed could be removed too but cost of box build probably more expensive and have no room to store or handle a flat bed if I pull it off. I have waited months for the state title that GP claims to have initiated. I have completely lost confidence in the whole GP process although the truck is amazing.

They come with ISO locks, to directly mount a shipping container to the bed. That's what we're planning to do.

Please share with me your observations of this truck- what looked good to you, what didn't look good to you, and what concerns did you have about it? Why did you stop bidding before I did? Did you buy another vehicle instead?

Are you saying that you're shopping for a vehicle to convert into an overland expedition vehicle, or are you saying that you have converted vehicle(s) into overland expedition vehicle(s)? Please elaborate, Dirk.

I would be concerned about the challenges relating to CDL requirements, insurance requirements, and registration / license plate / trip permit requirements.

I would be willing to obtain trip permit(s) as needed. I would probably not be able to register it as a motorhome prior to bringing it home. And without registering it as a motorhome, it would require a CDL to legally operate it on public roads.

I have located a driver with a CDL so that I would be able to have it driven home without committing any crimes.

The insurance requirements are an issue that I have not even begun to figure out yet. Complicating this matter is that it will be coming home as "not a motorhome", and then we will convert it into a motorhome. I'm thinking that a cleaner solution would be for it to actually be a motorhome before even attempting to register and/or insure it, as opposed to registering and/or insuring it as something other than a motorhome, and then trying to get the registration and/or insurance changed over to a motorhome. I am trying to be careful to make statements, instead of asking questions, in order to avoid violating any forum rules regarding this subject...but I am open to any input here...

I am retired, and we would be willing to move to just about any state that facilitates the registration and insurance of this vehicle for our intended purposes.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it- it could be something as simple as CTIS operator error. I'm sure we'll get it figured out.

We would like to be able to build out our overland expedition box during the Spring/Summer/Fall warmer weather, but that's gonna depend on how long it takes to get my EUC approved...

Received three different emails yesterday from Iron Planet / GovPlanet, stating that that are reviewing my EUC. The first two emails were identical, and appeared to be from GovPlanet customer service. The third one appears to be from their EUC department.

Hoping and praying for the best...

It is in your best interest to obtain a CDL, you have a wait time on getting the truck so study up. It will be 4 to 12 weeks. Probably longer since this is your first time. They hand them out at walmart now so anyone can pass the test. Then just rent a truck for the driving portion. Or use the 7 ton with the tag trailer. It is in your best interest for your insurance as well as general safety. In the event you ever have an accident and someone is hurt, the other side legal pursuit is going to be if you were capable of handling a truck that size and if you had proper training for it.

The vehicle you purchased looked great. Nothing wrong there I think you just paid a premium the amk23's are just starting to be auctioned and the prices are always higher when GP releases new stuff. You got a good vehicle.
