Has anyone swapped out the turbo 400 to an overdrive trans. In an cucv? If so which did you use? Im still working on the truck i recently traded for. Now thinking about using it for a tow rig for my jeep. Plans are to be running 37's with just enough lift to clear them. Hoping to also play with engine to get the fuel mileage up. Was debating on trying to go with an overdrive tranny or changing the gear ratio to 3.73. anybody tow with theirs? What kindof mpg's?

Which model? M1008 or M1009, I assume you are talking about a M1008 with a change to 3.73 gears.

There has been much talk about the following:
700R4 Auto Tranny
NV4500 Manual Tranny
Change out the gears

The following tabs should keep you busy for a while. I used the search at the top of the page and typed in 700R4 and then NV4500. Saw a whole bunch MORE...

I have both kinds auto in 1009 which in my opinion worth less, now I have change out the rears to 3.73... A manual in 1028 is almost perfect with 4.56 with 33 inch tires mpg is around 16-14
