I’m looking for a replacement fuel pump for an 88 humvee. Is a Delco 42160 a direct replacement? Thanks.

Are you sure it is a fuel pump issue and not an injection pump or injector issue?
Did you run to empty and get air in the system?
Just wondering.

It’s just a hunch that it’s weak. When I loosen the bleed screw on the filter body while it’s running, I get a very low pressure bleed. Same with water separator bleed. I just thought the mech fuel pump should have more pressure than that. Maybe not but it’s a fairly cheap part. Any thoughts?

FYI:
I just did this job on a friends HMMWV and there's no good way to push the fuel pump actuator pin back up into the block without removing the mounting plate. The gaskets are readily available and fit 1955 thru 1995 GM engines and only cost a few bucks so bite the bullet and remove the plate. I used wheel bearing grease to hold the pin up in the block when I remounted the plate and it washes out after the engine warms up so it won't cause any problems down the line. Use a touch of Permatex Hi-Tack to hold the gaskets in place. A word of advice when you do this job, remove the right splash panel and have a long extension with either a 3/8 swivel socket or a universal with a 3/8 socket to put things back together. This allows you to tighten everything up reaching in over the frame rather than busting your knuckles on all the solid stuff in the neighborhood.
I don't believe that the Delco 42160 has the vent port on it. Please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks

I remember an old post, maybe by Retired War Horses [RWH]. IIRC, if the tank is full and you lose pressure at half full, the pump is bad and gravity is feeding the injection pump.

As long as no air is in the system, the injector Pump will draw from the tank on a weak pump, I jut replaced a pump this week on a customer truck, but it killed the truck, I could actuate the armature very easily, a new pump is almost impossible to compress by hand, put the new pump in and it started right up after a couple of bleeds.
