So this just happened...

I was trying to remove the coolant temp sensor from the back of the block while I had easy access to it, and no amount of anything would get it loose. I nearly broke my 7/8" line wrench! I ended up having to take the whole flange off, and even putting it in a bench vise yielded no positive results. I eventually realized what I was attempting to remove was an adapter for the actual sensor, and got the sensor itself out, but now the adapter is completely trashed, will not budge (loose or tight), and I'm almost convinced the flange itself is probably a little warped now. I need to find another one, but I'm not really sure what to call it and can't find a part number. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Not listed in the tech manuals.

The GM name is Cylinder Head Water Jacket Cover with Tapping Hole.

Looks like used may be the only option.

The thread had precisely the information I needed, and the news I was afraid of. Looks like the military version uses an adapter to boot. The civie version uses a larger sensor unit, so the military ones have a sort of step down adapter (which is what I can't get out of mine). I found and ordered the base on eBay. Hopefully I can find the adapter piece at the hardware store...

The reducing bushing is a standard unit from the hardware store. I don't recall the size at the moment. We have talked about it many times in the past.

I'm getting sensors at the FLAPS now, then headed to the hardware store. I should be able to share that exact size momentarily.
