was looking for a good source for a new alternator for my 71, m813
Inexpensive, but good, if there is such a thing

Delco 24V conversion is probably the lowest cost, and likely more reliable method to do this. There are even Chinese clone versions out now, which really lower the cost even further. They probably work OK, seeing that technology is decades old now, and those will even be new and not rebuilt.
