It seems like I'm really far from the first person to think the FMTV platform looks like a good base upon which to build an expedition camper. I'm still sketching out my plan, but one of my earliest decisions is to pay the modest weight penalty, and make the cab as comfortable as possible. That means things like airconditioning, sound deadening and heat insulation in the floor of the cab and possibly the roof, and maybe some cushy seats.
At this point, my interest is in building a box specifically for the job, so I'm favoring the M1078, but I'm also seeing the M1081. I'm wondering how the M1081 behaves when the roof and sides are latched. Is it as solid as the standard cab, or does it rattle, shake or have other issues?
In short, when I'm shopping, should I pass an M1081 by?
This is my first thread here, but I've been lurking for a bit, and this seems like a really positive community. Thanks in advance!
Edit: fixed bad choice of words.
