Power steering pump woes

Well..old power steering pump ate a bolt and tossed the other bolts...

Got a replacement..

This one has no assist at idle... And has the lines BURNING hot ....

Ideas?

Possivly not the pump or did i get a dud?

I loctited the bolts in.. So if its the pump.. Im gonna be pissed.

Just a guess, but could be there is something blocking it in the steering gear.
Might go thru the procedure in the manual that deals with adjusting the steering gear.
This could be one of the reasons that contributed to the pump failure.
This is just a guess tho.

The previous unit didn't fail.

The bolts fell out, from vibration...

It was being held in by the belts, and STILL working....


I will look through the TM and see if anything helps..

BUT, I did notice it was leaking..... and NOT from the 3 holes at the bottom....

I opted to replace it because I figured that a 30 y/o pump was probably gonna be failing sooner rather than later, and easier to replace now that I have to take everything apart ANYWAY...

I take it you turned in the old pump as a core. If not, then I would try putting the old pump back in
to see if the new pump is the problem. but I suspect you have already thought of that.

Yup. Turned it in. One of the bolts sheared off in the housing.... couldn't get it out with my resources....

Went out to move it after it was parked for a couple days...


Issue seems to have resolved itself...

Maybe more air in the lines than I thought?

Power steering is working at all ranges..
