I was wondering if you fine people had any info or tricks that might keep me from messing up when I pull this tranny from my A2?

Thank you,
Jeremy

Just did this with mine. Unbolt the floor, take out the short shaft to the Tcase. Take off the clutch linkage(anything connected or in the way of the trans lowering to the ground). Run a 2x4 or spud bar from an open window to the rear of the cab. Put on a chainfall or comealong, hook a nylon strap around the trans. Unbolt the smaller bolt pattern of the bell and pull it out. Lower to ground.

Heh, it comes out easier than it goes back in! I found it easiest to open the view plate in the bottom of the bell to help line it up.

The tranny is easy. I remove two and replaced one in less than 5 hours all by my self. Well, I had a bit of help as my wife raised and lowered the engine hoist.

This is a good place to tell people to be sure to check the trans-shaft bolts. Nearly all of the ones in both my trucks were barely tight.

Here is a little trick I use when I do it via the beam. I use a length of 4x4 rather than a pipe or spud bar. I attach the come-a-long to the wood via a chain around the wood. I use a 4" or so length of pipe on top of the 4x4 with the chain through it. Doing it this way allows some movement fore and aft when trying to slide the tranny in.
