Pulsing Brake Pedal

One of my deuces brake pedal has a pulsing feedback when stopping. If it was my civilian truck I would say the rotors needed turned but is this normal on some of the dueces. It stop quick and straight, just feel that feedback in the pedal. Thanks.

Is the pedal easy to push? Like power brake in a car easy to push is what I am asking. Mine doesn't pulse and neither does any other M35 I have driven. However, the spring that returns the pedal to full up on mine keeps coming off. When that happens, the pedal feels different when I lightly apply the brakes. Not exactly a pulsing, but close.

I would suggest you pick up a few wheels and spin the tires. You might have some out of round drums. They will be easily detected when you spin the tire and it stops or has a real hard spot to push through and then spins free for another 320 degrees back to that spot. A minor shoe adjustment might take care if that if you do it right though. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the help guys. The brake pedal is easy to push as far as a duece goes. I just feel the feed back. I'll check the spring just in case and will raise the wheels and check roundness. Thanks.

It has always been my understanding that setting a (parking) brake when the drums are hot will "push" them out-of-round. Pulsing pedal is the result.

However, reading the below posts tells me that this would NOT be the issue with a deuce!

Maybe someone once "held" the brake pedal down hard when the drums were hot.

Regardless, that would be frustrating.

Hopefully, you'll have a simple enough fix.

Interesting.

Remember, the deuce parking/emergency brake is on the rear of the transfer case. No effect to the regular/service brakes.

The M35 parking brake is on the t-case.

Something else to check is the drum retaining screws/nuts. All 10 should be on each drum and tight. Since the wheel doesn't hold the drum on, you could have a drum several inches off and not know it by just looking at the tires. I didn't write that correctly and I can't think of a better way to put it. A drum severeal inches off wouldn't be touching the brakes. But, a drum loose with only one or two nuts still holding it on could be right at that point, but wobble a lot toward the tire the rest the way around.

What did you find was the issue? I drove my truck today after about 3 weeks of sitting and it felt like my brakes were frozen when i was ready to go. i have had frozen brakes on other trucks where water gets in the drums and freezes and did not think any thing about it. i was driving and applied the brakes lightly and had a pulsing sensation but if i press harder it went away. any ideas?
