Question about Transfer

Hey I have something on the front of my transfer case, almost across from that speedodomiter 90º cable hook up, sorry cant think of its name right now. But its round and maby 2" diamiter and sticks out about 2 or 3 inches and has several small thin bolts going through a flange that secures it to the transfer case. It also has a pipe or hose thats coming out of it but I cant see where it leads too. It is in a tight place with a brace and other things around it for me to get a good look at it. Do you guys understand what I'm describing ?

I thought it was a air cyl. for a air shift transfer case ? but I have a hand leaver for changing high to low. I looked a several diagrams in manuals but didn't see it in them.

Your close in your thinking... It is the air cyl for the 4 wheel drive...

You should also have the corresponding flip switch under the dash!?... unless your truck came with the old style sprag unit TC and it just was swapped out without completing the installation???
