Questions about a throttle repair.

One of my deuces has a throttle issue that I think will be easy to repair. I just need a better understanding of what I am up against. The truck runs and starts fine and will move when you let out on the clutch. But there is no response when you step on the throttle. If I push down on the throttle pedal it will return to its original position. Before I crawl underneath can someone tell me what I should look for? Does this sound like a common problem?

Okay, I crawled underneath and found the problem. The linkage is pulling back but the piece that sticks out of the injection pump is stuck. I could not get it to loosen by tapping it with a hammer. So what should I do next? Is this something I can repair without pulling the injection pump?

I pulled the passenger side fender for easier access. I zeroed in on the problem area. I do not know what that part of the IP is called, but I o know it does not work. Can any one offer me any tips or tricks before I proceed?

soak the snot out of it with PB blaster or your flavor of penetration type liquid. Let it soak for a couple days, just spray it down a couple times a day. That should fix it if there is any hope with out replacement. soak all the parts of the system.. they all look nasty. If you get it freed up coat it all down with some sort of spray grease like a good heavy chain lube.

Keep spraying it on, Lonesome - soak it good by spraying a little on it a lot of times; that will allow it to keep seeping in deeper and deeper, and hopefully that will free it up.

If that will work that is great. But I would prefer to repair it propperly. Is that something I can do with out getting into the whole IP? Also, the bolts around this part hase little peices of wire securing them. That tells me I should not be unbolting any of it with out a better understanding of what I am doing.

right.. well the wire is there to tell the 63B if someone has been futzing with the fuel rates and all that.. but spraying the snot out of it is fixing it.. nothing my be broken, just a little stuck. No need to rewire the house for a burnt out light bulb.

That is a good point. I am not very familiar with this type of problem. So I was not sure if a major repair was in order. I will go out there beofre I run this morning and spray it again.

It looks as though I have found the issue. The governor seems to be working properly. It is ht return spring that is not working. I compared the range of motion with another deuce I have. The return the spring on this deuce is too long and will not return the governor to the closed position. We are about to go pick our tricycle motor up from Pre-K. When I return I will dig through my springs and see if I can get this truck off of dead line.

Something else is wrong. The spring may have been part of the problem but it was not the problem. Everything is still real tough and the pedal will not spring all the way back. My other deuce will allow me to move the linkage and the govenor by hand with very little effort. The dead lined deuce is not like that. It takes a lot of effor to move it all and it does not return all the way back to the start position. I really need some ideas here.
