Is it likely that a 1986 M35A2C with a VIN starting with 292272 has dual circuit brakes?
I thought I had read that the VIN starts with 1040 on the trucks with a dual master cylinder, and that only 1987 and 1988 trucks came with it.

Likely, yes, but without seeing the truck it's impossible to tell. If it was an "on of the first off the line" for the USAF contract run of 1986-1988 trucks, then yes it could.
Look for the BRAKE light in the center of the dash cluster. PM me for more info.
