rear main seal

I bought a new rear main seal and read about changing it by removing the oil pan and rear main...

I am taking out the transmission to be rebuilt

Question: Can I change the rear mail seal WITHOUT removing the oil pan when the transmission is out? Or is removing the pan a must either way?

no you have to take the oil pan down.

can the front seal be done at the same time?

yes but you have to take off the timing cover. best thing to do is get a shop/repair manual.
