removing diagnostic wiring harness!

A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Can I remove the complete diag-harness (big plug under the dash) without any trouble with the rest of the electric?

The connector is outside under the glowplug-resistor at the firewall. Can I disconnect it?

The truck is nearly complete teared down for a frame-off-resto! So I can´t test it anymore!

I think, I´m to stupid, to find something in the search function! :cookoo:

Yes just unplug it under the hood and do away with it. You will need to fish the connector thru the firewall. But it is not needed. The round plug bracket is an excellent gauge bracket. It is the correct size for a gauge. Cut it at the connection if you are just going to discard it and then seal the hole with some tape or a caplug grommet.

I vote for this option. I have no use for the thing, and I'm not a purist, but when I get around to removing it, I'll do it non-destructively, and post it here as a freebie for someone who wants his rig combat ready.

These things aren't getting any more plentiful.

I have no plans on removing the one in my M1009. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the truck, and I've found other places to mount accessories. I put my trailer brake controller on the lower left side of the dash. I mounted a switch for my KC HID lights near the brake controller. I mounted a dual 12 volt power outlet on the lower passenger side of the dash.

I say rip it out and it opens up a spot for a nice temp gauge down below :)

Nothing useful in that harness that can't be found with a voltmeter.

I'll 2nd/3rd/4th what everyone else has said here. Wondered the same thing myself and ended up tracing everything out to see what else was connected. I couldn't find any tie-ins to anything else so I removed it as stated above. No problems at all.

Hi!

Thanks @ all!

I´ve every original (not used) part saved in sealed boxes for the future.

My rule: "Every part comes, and goes with that truck!"

So it can be reinstalled at any time. I close the holes with a plug, or I weld in a piece of sheetmetal.

I wrap the loose connector to the engine-harness.


The complete Body goes to a special company, where it will be chemicaly cleaned (paint and rust-removal), and then they apply a coat of EPD. So I have a (nearly) NEW body. The same proceed at the other sheetmetal parts (hood, doors, fenders, radiator support...). All parts are in a good shape without rusty holes! :D
