Replace in-tank pump with external solid state pump

I'm looking at the pump linked below. It looks like a much cheaper option than trying to replace the intank pump. The specs look right, but I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing. Thoughts?

Do a site search for Airtex E8131. I’ve been running one for years, no issues. Many many others are too.

Put all those pieces together, cut out a small section of copper pipe above the tank, install all pieces, tap into 24v from original pump.

The end result will look like mine…

One alternative to the stock in-tank pump are some from aircraft tanks. They were pretty easy to find not too long ago, and far, far cheaper than stock. If you want to go that route, I could probably find you some part numbers.

Sure. I remember there was someone selling cheap intank pumps on ebay a few years ago, but havent seen any recently.

ANY good quality 24 volt pump will do. (If it is a good lift pump).
My GMC 135 has a quite reasonably priced diesel/petrol in line fuel pump
fitted to the bulkhead in the engine compartment.
Works just fine, And with a seperate hidden operating switch It is also an 'Anti theft' device.

Iv'e done 3 so far and they work well. The other style "Artex " fail repeatedly

I don't trust the Airtex I've had them fail in other applications. The solid state pumps are pretty good but I've only used them for small gasoline engines. Maybe they will work for the M35A2 because they can pull through.

The multifuel pump is really only there to prime. Mine just died on my M35A2 and it runs just fine..... until I change the filters. I off road my machine. Because of the wet winter I've been fording to the fenders in it. The deuce vibrates something fierce. I'm not screwing around I'm getting a Walbro pump. Buy once; cry once. The FRB-23-2 would be the best. 48" of dry lift, 43 gph, 8-11 psi self regulating and marine rated. Yep that'll be a couple Franklins....

I'm not putting that model in though. I scored a NOS Walbro 6067W for under $50 on fleabay. Only difference is the marine rating 1000 hour salt spray test. The 6067 (aka FRB-2) only has a 96 hour salt spray test. I can live with that.

Keep your eyes peeled for deals like that. They come up. If you're in a rush though then spend the dough. Nothing more expensive than doing a job twice.

Note on the gauge setup: I like it but if I do it I'll have a shutoff valve between that and the line. Gauges do fail. If I want to see it I'll valve it on then off again when I'm done.

Walbro makes good products. That pump is a sound investment especially for only $50.00 !
