For further info,the Deuce shifter clamps onto the shift rail selector,the 5 ton shifter has the selector made to the shifter and is held in place by a small thru bolt

The 5 ton and deuce trannys are entirely different. The 5 tons are a huge 5 speed with direct high. The M35 deuce trannys are a smaller 5 speed with overdrive high. The output flanges on them are different. The output flange on the 5 ton is a large circular flange with eight bolts. The deuce trans has a smaller 4 bolt flange. You cannot interchange them without a lot of other associated work. If you have a 5 ton, it will have the large trans. The duece will have the smaller trans. The gearshift lever on the five tons is as described, a one piece unit. The deuce shifter stick is clamped on a stub shaft on the top of the trans tower where you would expect to see the long one piece stick on a conventional trans.
