Hey- I'd like to know about rail transport for MV's, (M800 series stuff on this project, but I'd like to know as it pertains to trucks in general). My searches didn't turn up much. Nor has trying to get online quotes. Before I call around (as an amateur), thought I'd try to learn about the concept.

Have you ever tried it? How does the cost compare to trucking? What are the issues to consider?

Are there any 'professionals' here (doing (did) this for a living)?

My destination is near a rail hub in Utah. Origination is Philadelphia on this first project.

Appreciate any and all comments.

I'd argue that if you could obtain a Boxcar of the appropriate size/opening, you could easily move what you want for cheap. Loading/Unloading points would tough though. In my case, I COULD use the Rail Road Museum for loading and shunting easily enough. The destination in PA would be the hard part.

A modified box car with end doors would work.
A container on a flatcar would as well.

An All door boxcar would work well I think.
