A friend of mine told me about a rig that is not far from us, I don't have pics, sorry. The rig is a XM501 hawk missile loader.
However: the rig has been abandoned for 10+ years. The carrier was cut up and modified to carry a rig drilling rig some time back, which has since failed, and let to its being parked. Engine I assume is frozen. Same for tranny. Missing parts. Crappy overall condition. Not known if its for sale, since it's sitting in a field somewhere in southern VA, quite some ways from me (hence, a lot of gas money to go find it).
Pluses: parts for the engine/tranny are cheap since its a M151 engine and Ford C-4 tranny. Most of the rest of the rig's parts are mil standard, and can be found on other mil trucks and pieces of equipment without too much trouble. Probably could be had for REAL cheap, $250 or less, if the current owner or owner's wife wants the pile gone.
Should I even bother looking more into this? An XM501 might be a really cool off-road ATV, without the cost of a real ATV.
What do you think?
