That size shelter was designed originally to fit on the M-37. The M715 also used them. However, it can fit on almost every full size pickup.

Ta try to answer both questions, I'd say S250...here's what mine looks like in a M105 trailer...they will also fit a 101A3 without any fenderwell modification....101A1 & 101A2 needs the inner fender wells modified...2cents

Heres is a pic of my S318 on an M103A3 trailer. I did add the right side jerry can mounts. The drivers side one is original. Has all the same vents as the one in the pic.

That's an S-250. I have an identical shelter in my garage. All the exterior pieces are identical, except the unit in your photos is missing the power / phone input panel and the exhaust fan / fan shroud. The S250 is actually a little long for the M37, but it fits the 715 perfectly.

Please provide pics of your identical S250. For some reason it's identical to my 318 that has the pics above with the exception of the 2 can mounts that I added. Not saying that you're wrong but I've owned both and that sure looks like a 318 to me.

An S318 & an S318 are very similar - an S250 is 86 7/8" LOA X 79 5/16" wide, while an S318 is 77" LOA X 70 1/2" wide. That's why the 318 fits an M37, and the 250 sticks out. The photos of my S250 were a little challenging - I have a kid changing apartments, and the garage is fuller than normal. Note the patch on the front roadside corner - the shelter was harpooned by a forklift before I got it, but Good 'Ol TB-43-0124 showed the approved repair. The power inlet has been upgraded to a newer style Pyle-National, and the old heater inlet / exhaust have been modified to cable pass-throughs. The side exhaust has been reconnected directly to a 24 VDC blower. The old side antenna feed through has been blanked off. I am now building light fixtures since the original fixtures are not too good for what I need, and air conditioning may be added as well. Unfortunately, the military AC I tracked down for the shelter may be too noisy for what I need, so I may have to build my own. As you can see from the second photo, mine was also used for an AN/GRC-122 as well.

Doubt there are any S-318s left in service since everything was for the M8XX, M10XX or Humv in the last 32 years of my career.

S-318: 73" x 71" x 67"
S-250: 87" x 80" x 71"

I vote S-250 configured as a GRC 142/122 teletype shelter. My S-250 GRC-142 exterior is identical, the GRC-106 radio exhaust port is a dead give away.

It looks awful short in the M101A3 trailer. Looks to be more than a foot of space in the 8' trailer box. If in fact it is an S250 there would only be 9" of space between the shelter and the trailer box. Per posted measurements, 87" and the M101A3 bed is 96"

My 318 came out of GL about 8 years ago.

I think there are also GRC-122/142 variants in the S318 shelter, but I don't have my TMs handy to see what their vents and external fittings look like.

Mark, you got me on the configurations but I can assure you that the one that I posted pics of is an S318 and it has the exact same vent config as 135 GMCs S250 so I'm guessing you are right. If everyone is in agreement that the S250 is right at 87" in length then there's no way that the shelter in that trailer is that length. The trailer box is barely 96" in length.

Now you got me confused becase my what I thought was a S250 is 74 !/4 " long and 73 1/4" wide at the top and 44 1/4" at the bottom and 63 1/4" tall so any idea what do I have? It has a full piano hinge on the door and a small safe inside under the dessktop. Also a heater/ air cond. to the right as soon as you walk in the door that swings right to open. Can anyone figure out what I have for it has no spec tags or model #'s. Thanks

Sounds like a 318 by the dimensions. There is also an S144 but that one is like 57" wide, it's a skinny feller. Lots of folks look at a pickup type shelter and automatically assume it's an S250. Since owning both I've learned to tell them apart at a glance.

You guys back east are fortunate to have so many choices for shelters. Out here in the west shelters are almost impossible to find with the exception of the occasional S-250. :(

I'd love to find a S-89 or S-144 or S-318 for my M-37. If you guys have any of these shelters that are under foot or orphans, I'd be glad to give it a good home and fill it with green radios (I've got more radios than will fit on the benches in the back of my truck).

Would anyone know where to find and what TM is for the S 318 , also anyone ever remove the Air/heat unit right next to the door on the inside , of a S318 and how does the unit come away from the wall ???
Any tips about how to open the safe in a S318, not sure of the combination but there is 4 numbers written on a piece of tape on the safe door, but so far no luck trying to opening it?
