Hi Folks:
My M1009 really belches diesel fumes when in park, although as soon as I put it into gear (D or R) the smoke clears out. It matters not whether the engine is warm or hot, so long as it is in park it smokes, and when in gear the smoke dies way down (although you can still smell that it's diesel, for sure).
When warm, the engine just purrs beautifully. Its musical, almost.
Having researched and read on this forum, I know these are supposed to be clean burning engines, so I'm thinking something is wrong. Here is what I have done so far:
1) Run clean fresh Diesel through it over the last few months, including a 250 mile highway road trip (16.5 MPG on that trip, so I'm lagging behind some other posters on this board)
2) Put Sea foam in the gas tank
I have not changed the glow plugs or injectors yet, nor any of the rubber tubing that goes from the pump into the injectors, nor replaced the injector pump.
I sense that this might just be a simple adjustment to fix, but hope springs eternal....
Thoughts? Any recommendations as to next steps?
Thanks in advance
