Hello everyone! First post!
I bought my first CUCV M1008 last month. Beautiful truck, but none of the gauges worked. I determined both the speedometer gauge and the speedometer cable were bad and a replacement gauge cluster and a new cable later everything now works…but the speedometer. (And voltmeter but that’s for a different thread.)
Gauge is good now as is the new cable, the needle spins when you spin the transfer case end of the cable.
I figured the issue would be the driven gear and replaced that but the old one looked almost brand new and the issue persists. My next thought was the adaptor or the drive gear in the transfer case however I discovered something weird.
If I remove the adaptor and hook the speedometer cable into the transfer case directly, it doesn’t work at all.
If I include the ratio adaptor and keep everything loose, barely hand tight, the speedometer either works perfect or it doesn’t work at all…like 50% of the time. It’s like if there’s any pressure pushing on the cable/adapter end then it doesn’t spin the gauge.
Looking at schematics, I am missing a seal for the speedometer cable. GM Part No. 14018671. But that wouldn’t cause this issue would it? If so, where can I find this seal or something equivalent? I’m not seeing it anywhere online.
Or is it something else entirely?
