Yes, I know I could search, but I'm at a bus stop doing this on a wireless device...

Anyway, military wise, what would you fing a m101a2 usually being towed behind?

So many light duty military rigs, m1008, m1009, m998, and so on, but which one seemed to have the least difficulty?

Our advanced search technology allows searching from wireless devices and works at 1.5 speed at bus stops. Search away! BTW, all of the above except the Oh-9.

Searching doesn't work at bus stops on wireless devices? Or its hard to search on wireless devices, but easy to type long winded questions?

I am confused???

The ODD or Olive Drab Disease affects the victim's thought patterns when they have idle time for some and others, well,,,,,when they're looking at produce.....................

Sitting on the can, and have just a few seconds to text a passing f*rt of a question or thought or opinion, not important enough to take the time and show some respect to all the many readers of this site and post it properly, but really want all of you to take the time to respond to me politely and courteously !

Please bear with the fact that my time is much more important than yours, I just have to ask and get an answer . . . RIGHT NOW ! :p :deadhorse:

Sorry guys and gals, that is just how the whole thing comes across as ! And they call them "smart" devices !

If all the people who gave smart-a$$ replies to questions would just not say anything at all, people may get the hint and search for themselves. Or, at the very least, if people would just answer a question they know the answer to, then threads like this may have only been two or three posts long instead of already streching to 11. :(

Why not the oh-9? Was there some kind of compatibility issue?

Just wondering as I sit in my room...
They tow it fine. Military forbade it.

IMO, and without hesitation, I would say the single best thing to tow a M101A2 with today would be a civilian pickup truck with an adjustable leveling hitch.

Military wise, anything that will keep it level. With working surge brakes, that issue becomes moot. Just keep it level. You won't even feel it back there, making all military vehicles least difficult to two behind.

I've used a couple internet forums, and I get more tired of hearing people tell other people to search, than I do of skipping a post I'm not interested in. I don't think it's that big of a deal, and the smart-a$$ replies are sometimes pretty funny. The forum would be pretty lame if no one added personality...
And sometimes many different replies from different people end up providing extra interesting info, like that the military prohibited M1009's from towing M101's.

It's an internet forum, no one's curing cancer here...

Did I miss your valuable contribution ? Seems as if your response is doing the exact thing, only directed at responders instead of the original poster !

Maybe if folks would not so blatantly acknowledge in advance that they are just too "special" or "spontaneous" to take the time to try and get along, post and search in all the advised ways, and so on, they would not get the responses to thier need for instant gratification your so sad about.

Great idea though, lets just ignore an issue and it will get fixxed on its own ! That head in the sand approach would lead to hundreds of short numbered threads and keep the moderators and administrators buried in bull**** !

Participation and member contributions are read by all, so you would think that after reading a bunch of these, some folks would catch on.

Typing on my laptop in thr front room drinking coffee ! 2cents

Reason for sitting at the bus stop: Dropping my truck off at the transmission shop AGAIN.

Reason for asking the question: Because I think towing my m101A2 contributed to the early demise of my transmission.

Asking about particular vehicles: Because I see all kinds for sale, and while getting too much rig for the trailer is, well, too much. Getting one that can handle a fully loaded m101A2 is what I think I should get. Drooling over a NEW truck isn't getting me what I want or need. Getting a slightly 30ish year old truck with about 50K miles on it that will sit for more than it's driven, will most likely work just fine for me. Just don't tell my wife.

Also, having audience participation is way more fun than not. Ask any performer.

I have a 2006 Dakota. 4.7 HO Auto transmission. Only 124K on it. :(

I think some of the issue was the sloppy pintle hitch. I hope to rectify that issue withe standard pintle instead of one with the ball. Too much jerking around...

Oh look, I just won one on eGay.... For only one bid... How did that happen...?

But still, I think a better truck will help, like a m1008 or better...

An Oh-8 would be a better choice. Heat is the enemy of the tranny and adding an aux cooler will prolong life. I don't know what your truck is rated to tow but a slightly overloaded M101A2 can weigh in at 3300#. The anemic gears of the Oh-9 is the reason the gov't decided that the 1/4 ton trailer was the limit. Many unit removed the pintle completely. With that said, many members use the blazer to tow the 101s pretty reliably.
