You should download the first 8 or so TMs at this site, If you fully read the -10, operators manual I will guarantee you will save money in the long run, getting yourself familiar with the others will also bring you much understanding of how your HMMWV works.

Basically it is like any starter, you fully disconnect the batteries, remove the wires from the starter, unbolt the starter and remove it, only this one you will not be able to hold in place with one hand as you manipulate the bolts with the other.
