On the weekend from Hades(if you read the story) I killed my starter.I think mud and water got into it cause ever since then the starter has had a dead spot.I hit the button and can hear a click.I can keep hitting it and some times it will finally spin over and start the truck but some times I have to hit it with a hammer.

Check cables, remove and clean starter to make sure it is grounding good. Last option is tare it down and clean and lube.

Sounds like the solenoid to me. A disc moves forward slamming against two contacts making the connection. A spring pulls it back. If the disc gets lopsided or burns, you'll have an intermittant connection.
Solution: Replace/rebuild solenoid.

Check the ground & cables. If they are clean & tight, you will have to take it apart & clean it up. Electric motor cleaner & some emery cloth works well. Make sure all internal electrical contact points are clean.
Will probably be OK.

I am having the same problem. How much does a solenoid go for? Can a solenoid be replaced while the starter is on the engine?

jd yes I think you just get it off when the starters on the truck but a new from Leece-Neville solenoid is
.... $350 so generally your better off finding a new starter.
