Steps to check out a M1008 needed

After my first look at an M1008 for sale, on the way home I realized I didn't have a really good evaluation of the truck. I need to know what to look for mechanically, and how to assess it. I am good with the bodywork etc needed. So, I am going to put a set of batteries in it. What should I be looking for as we attempt to start it? After it has started? Thanks for any tips, and I hope this isn't a redundant question. I don't need a lawn ornament or a money barbecue pit.
