Sticky shutoff, really frustrating

So, I have this LDS-465-1a in a frame section sitting in my shop that I have been working on to get it ready to go into my shop. A few weeks back Welldigger came down and walked me through replacing the HH orings and we unstuck the shutoff lever while I was in there. Since then I've removed the cover a couple of times to check it and make sure it wasn't stuck again and it was fine. So today I took it off for the final time to install safety wire through the bridge plate screws ( I just finally got some wire). Well the lever was stuck again. Not stuck as in wouldn't move at all, but really stiff. I almost needed pliers to turn it. So I backed the bridge plate screws out a bit to see if they were too tight and that wasn't it. I took the plate off and removed the lever and it moves nice and free in my hand, but if I put it back in and try to move it it acts like the fuel stop plate doesn't want to move. In fact, when we had it apart the first time I remember noting that the spring was really stiff, but moved freely. I don't know what to do. I'm about at my wits end with the shutoff in this motor.

Yes I replaced all the orings. I'm going to pull the center bolt on he HH and spray some Kroil in there and see if it helps at all.
I dunno if soaking the plunger will help. I'd squirt some oil on the fuel control rod and work it around in there. See if that helps first.

Squirt some atf in with the fuel block and work it around. I have seen fuel gum up the shaft and ATF frees it up. If its the actual control rod that goes in the side of the head, take it apart CAREFULLY and clean it up. Heat(propane torch works well) helps when taking the nut off the fuel rod shaft.

I did spray some Kroil up into the shutoff lever bore. The lever moves just fine within its mount plate. If I can't get it freed up I'll pull the HH tomorrow and drop the whole thing in a bucket of ATF. I feel certain it is the stop plate sticking.

If you do disassemble the rod, make sure you take pictures and make a reference mark on how the lever is connected to the rod. If not you can screw it up.

I'm not sure I understand what your telling him to do here. You talking about the fuel shut off rod that goes in the side of the head? What needs marked? Isn't it just oriented at 90*?

One member reversed the orientation of the pin. Stop was run and run was stop.

Ha! It isn't even in the truck yet!
Anyway, I went back out and fiddled around with it some more and found the shutoff plate stuck in the up position. Bear in mind that I soaked everything in there with aerokroil before I came inside and posted about this. After working it up and down with a small flat screwdriver a couple of times it freed up. I reinstalled all the parts, properly safety wired the bridge plate screws and did a final check. I found it operating properly so I put the cover back on. I may actually get to fire it up when I get home tomorrow. I did spray a bunch more Kroil into the shutoff bore before I put the lever back in to hopefully keep this from happening again. So now we all know that Kroil works for this task.

Be aware all that kroil is mixing with the engine oil. I doubt it will hurt anything. Unless you emptied an entire can in there. Then I suggest changing the oil.
