T-case low range question

Okay, so's ya'll know, I did search for this first there just isn't much on it. I drove the deuce just a little, put it in low so I could shift some gears. It doesn't seem to want to go into low very easy. I can feel the detents, but they seem weak on going into low. The handel moves up and down slightly as the RPM's go up and down and it did pop out of gear once. I don't think there's any adjustments on the T-case I can make. Just wondering if this is kinda typical for a deuce. I'm thinking of making a little latch for the T-case shifter to hold it down, any thoughts?

Lengthen the shifter rod under the cab. That will cause it to have more of a throw, and possibly stay in range.

It's the transfer case that's popping out of gear, if I read this right? And it would then be popping out of low?

If the transfer case lever hits the floor, then shortening the rod may help.
If the transfer case does not hit the floor, or just "kisses" the floor when you slap it down, then you have the full travel from the shifting rod that pulls out/pushes into the transfer case, and the problem would be internal.
Lots of movement with throttle application is a concern... The only way the shift lever is hooked to the gas pedal by the internals of the transfer case.

I haven't had time to look underneath much since I just got it. I imagine some flexion from the torque in the drive train would be normal and could result in slight movement of the shift levers. The odometer shows less than 27K (But I know that could be inaccurate) so hopefully there's not any significant wear. I haven't driven a deuce since '91, so I've kinda forgotten the "feel" a bit. I'll have to wait for it to dry out some so I can drive it around out back.
