I purchased a new set of housings as some are cracked.

Having them in my hand - I’m wondering if this plastic is UV stable?? It just seems like it’s not, and should be painted, to prevent them from cracking in the future. Curious if painting is necessary or not??

They will hold up (OEM) but I could sure see hitting them with a rustoleum Matt black. I love the stuff.

Does that hold up well? I’ve never paid for rust oleum. The old 98 cent cans (which are 2.69 now) always performed just as well or better for me

I tried the cheaper stuff and I can tell you it fades quick compared to the rustoleum. It also flakes more. Been there done that and won't do it again.

I like the Rustoleum flat BBQ paint, (7778830) can even apply to radio ant and such as it has for many years been without any metals (I think all paint now contain no metals)
I buy it by the case from Home Depot when on sale.
EDIT, not the Ultra, sometimes it just does not get flat enough.

If you have authentic ones (or good copies). Just take the front housing off, turn the little metal clips inside and remove the clear lense. Then you can paint it without worrying about taping things off. (That is how I did my trailer recently.)

You cannot get quality paint out of a spray can…it’s impossible due to what it takes to get it to shoot through the spray tip.
UV plays havoc on cheap paint from a spray can in very short order.
