Found a bunch of these in my M1078 from fort Campbell. Anyone know what they are and how to use?

Aircraft cargo tie downs. Used with chain. If I remember correctly, the proper chains are 5/16" link, about 6 feet long, and have a chain hook on one end that's bent to lay flat back parallel with the chain.

i was monkeying with them, and assume you apply tension via the rotating "collar" nut?

Yeah, they're used to tie stuff down in C17s and such (only time I've personally seen them used). Guessing they did an op and during 'extract' from the aircraft they got thrown in instead of left on board.

If you look for hte youtube video of loading abrams for flight in a C5 or C17 you can see them in operation.

Yes, Use the lever to feed one link of chain and lock down. The collar swivels to tighten. Pretty cool and they have a decent weight rating 10-12k. You have an older style left and a newer one on right. GL's retail store Uncle Sam's surplus sells them presently.

Weve tied many a M35 and M900 Series 5 tons in the C5s with those.

In the Army we used them to tie down aircraft to the flight line. You need to put the chain in, so the load is in line with the screw. If that makes sense.
