HEY GUYS,
HAS ANYONE TRIED TO TITLE A DEUCE IN **NC.** AND NOT USED A SF-97..?
WOULD SOMETHING LIKE THIS WORK?..

I had to get a Notarized bill of sale from the seller and have a police officer fill out an affidavit verifying the V.I.N. and that I owned the vehicle. Sent that to the MVA and two days later I had my title...

Kevin...

No, that will not work in NC.
You have to have an SF-97 or a title... Otherwise you have to do a title by bond. If the truck is coming from out of state and that state doesn't use titles, then you don't need one.

Trust me, you don't want to try the bond proccess in NC. It sucks, and sucks even worse with trucks that have non-standard VIN's that the inspectors do not like.

You need the SF-97, or a title from another state, unless it is a state that does not title older vehicles.

Without a title, an SF-97, or a registration from a state that does not title older trucks it will suck to try and get a title in NC. It can be done, but you will have many hours, lots of aggravation, and will have to buy a bond.

Thanks for the depressing news...
What if the truck never left the state, never registried/titled, (farm use) and your father gives you the truck with a notorized bill of sale..?..Get my drift..?...

Bond is the route your goin to have to take. NC is one of the worst states and best states to get a title from. When you have one you know its 100% legal after what they do but a pain to get.

Where in NC is it? Im sure someone local might can help.

Won't matter one bit.

It will require a bond, an inspection by a DMV inspector to verify the VIN, if the Inspector does not like the VIN for any reason they will make you buy a new VIN plate from the state with a NC VIN and then you must make a second trip to the Inspector so he can watch you rivit the VIN plate on. If it is a military vehicle, count on them not liking the VIN. It is essentially the same VIN assignment you would do if you had a home built vehicle.

Oh, and better hope everything else is up to snuff on a big truck when you take it to the DMV inspector, or they may require you to change it before they sign off- for exampel when I did my UNIMOG they made me change my tailights and install seat belts.

Then, if you are lucky, you will get your title back at normal speed. Sometimes they hold the title for 6 montsh to make sure nobody else comes over to claim it.

I am also having problems with titling by bond on a VW. I followed the law exactly and central DMV is trying to deny it. I am going to have to hire a lawyer. I ignored it until now because I need to renew the plate now.
