Transfer Case Problems

Ok, I have a M816 Wrecker, and I cannot get it to move in LOW range. High works fine, Wrecker Body operates fine, but in LOW Range, it does nothing, if you push down on the handle it will grind a bit. I have been underneath and had a helper move the range lever and it is moving in and out freely I compared the amount of travel to one of my M818's and it appears to be moving a similar distance.
I am afraid of what your answers will be , The transfer case has a tag from TEAD 1991 rebuild

Drain the oil and see if teeth come out. Best case is a shift fork loose on the rail.

The shift fork and mating engaging collar are possibly worn to a point where the low range gears are not engaging. Normally happens to 5 tons with winch in the high range side. Yours is uncommon. Joe Naglich in St Marys Pennsylvannia has brand new 5 ton transfer cases.

my xcase did the same thing, would grind a bit but not go into low, i changed out the xcase, when i had the old one on the ground, i forced it into low, the xcase locked up, had to take the inspection cover off and use a pinch bar to pry it out of low
