Transmission and sprag t case

What is the shift rod coming out of the top rear of my transmission and
connecting to the transfer case and can it be removed????

Looks like your are new to the site so be ready for the search police. If you have a sprag t-case then you need that rod and arm, if you have an air shift case you can remove the arm but the rod stays. It tells the sprag t-case which way the truck is going in case it needs to kick in.
