Got a camping trip coming up and wanted to be able to play some music (not while I'm driving, can't hear anyway). Picked up a 400 watt (24v) power inverter online for under $40. I was trying to figure out where to hook it up (it came with clips to go on the battery terminals, but...) I started eyeing the slave cable port.
Went to Lowes with a sketch of the port (really just pushed paper into it to hold the shape) and found that a 3-prong dryer cord, with the neutral prong cut off, just might fit. Took it home, cut off the neutral prong, and had to grind on the other prongs a little to narrow them. Now it plugs in pretty well.
Wired it to the inverter and plugged it in. Ran an extension cord to my stereo in the garage...and it wouldn't play. The display powered up, but no music. I guess that system pulls too much wattage for my inverter?
Tried my daughter's "boom box" (do they still call them that?) and it worked just fine. I guess I'm shopping for a smaller stereo now. I ran it for an hour with no noticable drain on the batteries, but it was daytime and I have a solargizer. Might be a different story at night, we'll see.
