Check the TMs, you can find them in the TM Section, there is a specific sequence for torquing the head bolts!!!

There are two different torque specs depending upon what motor you. Most of the newer motors are of the TD variant. I believe TD stands for Thick Deck. These require a higher torque setting than the others. If you torque a non-TD motor to the TD standard you are liable to muck things up. You can tell if you have a TD motor by examining the passenger side of the motor. If it is a TD motor, it will have a TD imprinted directly into the motor. I am hoping that someone with more knowledge can chime in here. Kenny?

100% right Bruce. More often than not, you will find the TD block. My M275A2 was formerly NA and it has the TD block.

Also, the heads are torqued to the spec torque when replaced, and should be re-torqued (once, and only once) after the engine has been run a few hours. Do NOT torque and re-torque and re-torque, too many re-torques will screw up the fire rings and you'll have to start over again with a new set of head gaskets!

Yes, "TD" stands for "thick deck", originally used only on 5 ton engines. After a while the military decided it was simpler to make all blocks "TD"s, it simplified the overhaul business as a "TD" could be rebuilt for either a 5 ton or a Deuce engine.
