U.S. Army or USMC, how can you tell?

Well after much paint sampling and color tests I still find that my 1954 deuce is darker than WWII semi-gloss, but lighter and not brown as 24087? My next question is, is my truck a USMC M211 or U.S. Army? How can you tell, the data place only says U.S. Property, but no mention to U.S. Army or USMC. How can you guys tell which agency owned the truck. Also any good tips for removing the outer layer of paint to expose the original military markings without damaging them. Thanks in advance.

I used a scotchbrite pad and lightly sanded off each layer of paint until the USA numbers showed up. It takes a while but well worth it! Run water over where your sanding and it seems to work much better.

Great call Lee! USMC is yellow! deuceman51, be very careful when looking for the original markings, if they are still there! Research, Research,..Most spray on paint stripper in use today is kinda weak (thanks to the EPA), so it takes just one appilacation to remove one layer of paint at a time. But if you are trying to keep the original markings without damage I just try to record the info, and duplicate. Just remember, "Know what and where" and you will be good to go

i have found the original lead based paint and subsequent red oxide primer to be durable. aircraft stripper usually slows down when it gets there. i stripped an m715 door with it and after the 7th layer the original AIR FORCE (1967) showed through
