Hi Again, Thanks for all the help with my m38a1 in the past. I found a military canvas bag that looks to hook onto a belt. It is marked US , has a clear plastic window on top, and has a plastic sheet lining inside. appears to be maybe Korean or Vietnam but not sure. any help would be great. Thanks

I'm no expert but I believe that is a Viet Nam era ALICE butt pack. The suspenders attach to it I think. It clips to the web belt.

Edit: Not ALICE system.

That's a M1961 Field Pack. The M1961 was a slightly improved version of the earlier M1956 Field Pack. The M1961 was Vietnam era but I saw them serving into the late '90s.

It's a buttpack but nothing to do with ALICE. ALICE gear is nylon and post Vietnam.

I don't know about unknown military gear - but I did lose my military bearing once...

That's from the gear between the M1951 revision and the M1960 revision IIRC. It was designed to be used with the H style suspenders, but the ALICE / LBE suspenders would work on it. This was a highly prized piece of gear in my day (late 80's early 90's) because the ALICE system didn't have anything comparable. The stuff right after I got out had a fanny pack.

I had one just like it when I left germany in 1985. When I got back in 1996, never saw one again unless it was at a swap meet. I hated the darn thing because you could not put your poncho on the web belt and the butt pack too. So you had to mount the poncho under the butt pack, and it rarely stayed there. Looked like you had a great green tail.
